A trail’s a trail
Since I can’t ride…and I love to run in the alpine, I went and shot some trail running shots with Pat Branch. We got some rad stuff. Here is a little preview for you…

-no comments-I just got my cast off this morning! So happy you don’t even know. Look at that tan line! It will be awhile before I am riding but I must say I am pleasantly surprised that my arm was not ridiculously small…the time in the gym has paid off so my comeback should be quick! The bones still look pretty broken on the x-rays but they should be good to go soon….I have to keep it immobilized in a splint for a couple more weeks but I am fine with that as it is best they heal how they should and I was lucky to avoid surgery- no need to mess it up now. My arm can breath and it feels greeeeeat.
I can definetly say that I will not be racing Red Bull 5000 down. I thought that it may have been a bit unrealistic but I wanted to stay positive and keep an open mind…it was/is good to make a goal and a deadline nevertheless. Don’t worry there are plenty more tangible goals in sight. :)
I cannot wait to ride!!!!!!
-no comments-The past two weeks I have had the meanest boys ever staying with me…don’t ever invite them into your house.
…just kidding, love you Benny and Ali and get better soon Stanny. You guys are the best.
-no comments-I kind of have an addiction with getting tired. I think thats the thing that gets me most about being injured…I don’t go to sleep tired enough.
Yah so I was thinking about racing Salomon 5 Peaks again this year…it’s a trail running race up in the alpine of Whistler but I didn’t have my trail running shoes which makes it kind of sketchy to giv’er especially when there are a ton of other people and I have a broken arm….so I decided to finally give Singing Pass a go. I have been meaning to do this for so long, so I finally did it. Solo. I love people but I also love being on my own so I just went into ‘Katieland’ for 4 hours…it was pretty freaking rad.
Singing Pass is a 21km hike from the village up to just bellow the peak…you basically parallel Fitsimmons creek and then end up at Oboe/Musical bumps, so you cross Oboe, Piccolo and Harmony before you get back to the gondy. I wouldn’t call it difficult, just a barge…it’s quite a lot of trail and it is mostly uphill so you kinda just put your head down and go…
PS. Hope you guys like all the self-portraits…HHAHAHAHAHHAAH
-no comments-So another Crankworx has come and gone. I had such a fun time but I must say that I am pooped. I was pretty bummed that I didn’t get to race as I was planning on racing 6 events…Dual Slalom, Garbanzo DH, A-line, Pumptrack, Giant Slalom and Canadian Open but injuries happen and I think I made the most of my Crankworx despite not being able to ride. I spent a lot of time hanging out with my sponsors, went out a lot (but I smashed myself in the gym every morning…they cancel each other out right??) and met a ton or rad people….and I cheered everyone on of course.
My favorite things of the week…..
The Saint Deep Summer Photo Challenge
Deep Summer Slide show from Dirt Tales on Vimeo.
The Camelbak Jump Jam
The SRAM Wiffle Golf Party and Pig Roast
The Camp of Champions party…complete with GoPro’s in the jugs of beer!!
My friends….all in Whistler at once!
Slopestyle. Got the best seats in the house, thanks SRAM!!!
The boys were killing it. So pumped for Zink and his win. It has been a long time coming for him…I swear something has happened to him every year that has kept him from making the top of the box. This year he finalllllly made it! Mike Montgomery pulled a huge 2nd place finish…such a killer result for him….and on hardtail I might add (Retarded!). Check out the GoPro vid!!! Rounding out the podium was Casey Groves, I love this kid and couldn’t be happier for him…I don’t think I have seen a bigger smile in my life.

Sometimes I just want to shake people and tell them to take care of themselves. As a mountain biker I spend A LOT of time outside in the elements and these elements will catch up with you. Moisturizer will do wonders for your skin…I don’t care if you are a boy, put that shit on, you need it. Trust me, as a girl I notice these things. :) The same goes for sunscreen, yes the burn will fade BUT your skin gets damaged every time you are out in the sun and it all adds up…you take enough risks on your bike, no need to add skin cancer to the mix.
Taking care of my skin is so important, I always want to be youthful and feminine and I don’t want to look like an old lady who didn’t take care of herself when I grow up…you know what I am talking about. Awhile ago Dermalogica hooked me up with a bit of product to use throughout the season and I have totally fallen in love with a few products in particular.
These four products have become staples in my skincare routine: Daily Microfoliant, Active Moist, Solar Defense Booster & Waterblock Solar Spray
-I use the Daily Micofoliant in the shower every morning. It is basically a rice-based powder that gently exfoliates the skin. My face just feels fresh and awake after using it.
-Next I mix the Active Moist and the Solar Defense Booster together and apply it to my face and neck. I am a total freak about moisturizer…I hate dry skin, especially on my face, so the Active Moist is a lightweight oil-free moisturizer that does the trick. Combined with the Solar Defense Booster it is also protected. Bike or no bike, this is part of my everyday routine.
-One of my favorite products, one that to be honest I didn’t expect, is the Waterblock Solar Spray…I absolutely love this stuff. I use this stuff every time I ride my bike or go to the beach or go workout…anything remotely active. It is super water-resistant and full spectrum…it also doesn’t have alcohol in its it doesn’t sting. It feels good on your skin…unlike a lot of other sunscreens out there.
You only have one body, so take care of it!!

-no comments-On Tuesday and Wednesday, Specialized Women will be hosting two group rides. It is a great opportunity to get out there, try out the line of women’s bikes, meet some new friends and get pumped on bikes. I would like to say I will be leading you all around, that was the plan after all, but instead I will be there to help you get set up, send you on your way…and then hear about your epic adventure when all is said and done. Everyone is welcome!!
I hope to see you all out there. :)
