Things have been amazing here- just trying to soak it all in!
I ran across this when I was geeking it up this evening and thought that it was cool…
“I’ve never had too many confidence issues in my skiing,” Miller said. “But to execute on a day like today, and the way I executed, the way I skied, is something I’ll be proud of for the rest of my life. I’ve put down absolutely wide-open runs (before). I’ve been able to ski better – I could have skied better today – but I skied with 100 percent heart and I didn’t hold anything back. (From SF Gate)
Wow. The Olympics are tiring- I just cannot seem to find enough time in the day to do everything. I have had a little reality check the last few days- tried to do way too much and was I ever exhausted. All good, lesson learned.
All of the events have been super exciting. The US is dominating right now and I am loving it. I may live in Canada but when it comes to sports and whatnot I am 100% yank. Men’s DH was definetly the coolest thing ever- they had it playing on the big screen in town and the boys were just PINNED. Inspiring. It was amazing to hear the start cadence so loud all around town- it just gets my heart pumping…its pretty much the same cadence we use at our races and it is just crazy what a few beeps will do to you when you are no where near a bike- the whole body just turns right on. I cannot wait to race!!!
Mr. Joe Biden…Vice President of the muthhha#$%$#^# United States of America!!! Still a bit puzzeled as to how I pulled this one off, especially considering I almost got run over by the first car in a chain of about 40 cops/secret service complete with machine guns/goggles/vests an hour earlier. Thought it must be someone important but to be honest kinda forgot about it…and then I was on my way up to the Sliding Centre and Mr.Joe Biden himself was walking in Whistler Village…swarmed by peps and secret service of course…but I dunno I just went for the photo op- he’s the muuuttha%#$%$$#% VP! So funny thinking about it.
Ahh yah another funny thing. So yesterday I was flexing it up in the gym and one of the guys was doing some Olympic weightlifting and dropped his weights on the ground and it made a loud noise- like 2 seconds later the police burst open the door thinking it was a gunshot or something. hahahah. Only during the Olympics :)
Well not exactly tears but lets just say it doesn’t always feel nice. But I love it!!
Training has been going great. I am really starting to feel strong right now which is perfect for where we are at in the off-season- obviously I have a ways to go but I am where I want to be right now! First race is a little under two months away.
I have been super into pull-ups lately- they are pretty hard and take work to get efficent, nonetheless, I am finally getting it! This morning my work for the day was put before me which included 100 pull-ups. About 35 pull-ups in my hands started to tear apart- the skin- was just ripping off and then they started bleeding. ewwww. But I got my 100. That’s what training is all about.
If there is one word that comes to mind to describe the village today it would be…ELECTRIC!
Tonight the opening ceremonies were broadcasted live in the village and there were thousands of people congregated to watch. Everyone was decked out in their respective countries’ colors, and pretty much just stoked in general. Pretty cool.
Men’s Singles Luge and Men’s Downhill are tomorrow (up here…more stuff in Van). Sounds like things are going ahead as planned after the tragic accident today on the track. So sad! The forecast is looking bleak for Downhill tomorrow and the guys haven’t really had any time on the course because of weather the past few days! Should be interesting. We shall see…
I think I just love bikes way too much. I had a million things to do today but I got talked to into going to the Sunshine Coast for the day. Stoked I did. Strand, Paulo, Mantlepiece and myself. I had suchhh a good day. Bikes just give me clarity of mind, love it.
Tonight the Olympic Torch Relay came to Whistler and it was so COOOOOL!! I have never seen so many people in town…EVER. Everyone was just glowing…so happy and having so much fun. A lot of people were actually in tears. It’s crazy the effect that the Olympics have on people- it’s impossible not to be touched in some way…at least that’s what I think. I mean there is so much drama around them and people fight and argue (way too much!!) but when it actually comes down to it- they get sucked right in and fall under the Olympic spell…I thinking anyone who denies it is lying! :)
I am definitely a bit of a hermit in the winter as training is serious business and I am usually pretty busy with school and what not. Anyway, last night there was a Haiti Benefit/100 Day Bike Park Countdown at Merlin’s so I had to make an appearance. It was definitely good to see peeps and have a couple of beers. The 2010 Olympic Winter Games officially start in one week! the torch relay is in town today so I am gonna go check it out….

The douche crossed the middle line on the highway and pretty much hit them head on! Luckily seatbelts were on and luck was on their side (and maybe a good split second reaction?) and all that happened was a broken rib for Keene and a broken elbow for Beautiful. Could have been so much worse! Don’t know what happened to the other guy (good thing he had no passengers!!!!) but I am sure he will be sitting behind bars shortly. Don’t be dumb. Seriously. There are no excuses.
The Olympics haven’t even started yet and I already feel like I am going full throttle. I have been pretty much living in the gym and when I am not there….I have been at Olympic training sessions or trying to get some rest in. I can’t believe how things are transforming on a daily basis! There are Olympic rings and Vancouver 2010 overlay EVERYWHERE. The lights in the trees have all been redecorated…red lights mean entrances and exits to the village and white lights light up the rest of the trees. Mass 24hour transit starts tomorrow! There are broadcast platforms that have been erected all over town which will be live broadcast points for the thousands of media…plug and go! The Whistler Sliding Centre is virtually unrecognizable! Wow! I am really getting pretty excited for it all. It is so hard to imagine that in 12 short days the whole world is going to be watching our little town!
